We all have only 24 hours in a day. Some people use 24 hours effectively and do great things. Most of us struggle to meet deadlines. So, how are some people so much more productive than others?Are they born efficient?May be, but not necessarily. Can we learn to be more productive and do more in less time?Of course, we can. Interestingly, to become more efficient, you do not need to be tech-savvy, use software or mobile apps, reach out to a mentor, or attend a training program.
All you need to do is to be little bit attentive and understand what I mean by "doing more in less time". It does not necessarily mean doing more number of works. You do not remember productive people for doing more number of works but for doing work efficiently and doing what really matters. He may be taking an hour in taking bath. But that is not our concern. Let me share with you why I decided to write this book.
I work on digital transformation of my organization, which is one of the largest company in Oil & Gas. Digital transformation, digitalization, use of IT and for that matter use of any technology intends to achieve one or more of three objectives: (1) improve productivity of employees, (2) improve efficiencies of processes, and (3) improve experience of customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
It means, companies are spending millions on adoption of technology so that more work can be done in less time, which translates into higher production, lower cost, and higher profit for the company. It motivated me to look at employee productivity from a new perspective. How can employee productivity be improved without spending big money on technology? I found the answer: by encouraging employees to use good time management skills.
In my pursuit to acquire time management skills, I read dozens of books, browsed hundreds of articles, talked to people who were considered to be very efficient, and practiced many techniques. I realized that theory was not enough. It is like someone tells you to get up early in morning and go for walk for good health. But you already know that. Unfortunately, you do not feel like getting up early and going for morning walk.
But if someone makes you wake up early and also makes morning walk tempting, you are more likely to go for morning walk. So, merely knowing that something is good is not enough. You need to practice it. It is more important to make tools available to practice good habits. In this book, I tried to put best of techniques, tools, and resources learned from dozens of books, hundreds of articles, interaction with dozens of successful people, and my own experience.
In this book, we will learn to critically analyze what we are doing, realize what we should be doing and plan accordingly, prepare ourselves to do what we should do, and do it better. In due course, we will perform some self-tasks, learn some theories, and take some tips. You can get all these things on internet. What is special about this book is, you will do everything yourself. You will apply theories and prepare a lists of things you should be doing.
It can be self-realization for you. So much to do in little time. Lets not spend too much time on reading preface, but jump to reading the book so that we can get more done in less time.
